A2Z Font Frequently Asked Questions
What is the A2Z font format?
An A2Z font is a special embroidery font format designed to work inside DIME by OESD embroidery software. Instead of placing individual letters one at a time, the A2Z format allows you to type words just like a keyboard font, then stitch them as embroidery. This makes creating names, phrases, and personalized projects faster, easier, and more flexible.
Important: The A2Z font format is exclusive to DIME by OESD software and will not work with other embroidery software brands. To ensure flexibility, we also include all individual letter stitch files, which can be used without software or with other workflows.
Which OESD collections include A2Z fonts?
New A2Z fonts are being released often! Just search 'a2z' on our website to find them!
Is embroidery software required?
Yes — software is required to use the A2Z font format. However, we also include all individual letter machine files with your purchase.
That means you can use the individual letters without software, placing them manually using your embroidery machine. Software simply gives you more control and convenience.
Which version of the software do I need?
You will need an embroidery software version that supports A2Z font importing:
Perfect Embroidery Pro, Word Art in Stitches, Embroidery Tool Shed Plus, My Quilt Embellisher, My Block Piecer, Cosplay Stitchery, In-the-Hoop Designer, Cut 'N Stitch, Patch and Applique Maker, Special FX, My Lace Maker, My Fabric Designer, Vintage Embroidery
How do I install the A2Z font?
Installing the A2Z font is quick and easy:
1. Open your Embroidery Tool Shed software
2. Click File -> Import A2Z Fonts
3. Locate the font file with the .a2z extension
4. Click OK
Once installed:

2. Type your text in the properties box

Do I need to reinstall the font every time I use it?

What kind of project is the A2Z font best for?
• Personalization (names, monograms, phrases)
• Gifts
• Products made by small businesses
• Anywhere you'd like faster, easier lettering!
What’s the difference between typeable fonts and alphabet stitch files?
Typeable fonts allow you to type words directly in embroidery software, just like using a keyboard font. The software automatically spaces, aligns, and stitches the letters for you. This makes personalization faster, easier, and more consistent.
Alphabet stitch files (sometimes called alphabet files) are individual letter designs. Each letter is its own embroidery file, and you place them one at a time on your machine or in software. This method works without embroidery software, but it takes more time and manual positioning.
Are all embroidery fonts available in the A2Z format?
No. The A2Z font format was introduced in January 2025. Only fonts released in January 2025 or later will include the A2Z format. Fonts released before January 2025 do not include the A2Z format. Many earlier font collections still include traditional alphabet stitch files, which can be used without software or placed manually. If you’re specifically looking for a typeable A2Z font, be sure to check the product description to confirm that the font is labeled as including the A2Z format.
